The 4th generation iPhone
On 7th June, Apple is set to introduce the forth generation of the most sophisticated mobile phones iPhone at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event in San Francisco, United States. What’s exciting is that the 4th gen iPhone is rumored to also be sold on the same day. It is anticipated that buyer must wait for a few weeks to get the iPhone after the launch at WWDC.
The upcoming handset has not been named nor a price has been announced. Will it be called iPhone 4G or iPhone HD? We don’t know yet. What we do know is that the handset will have a number of new features and changes.
It’s thinner than the 3GS, with smaller internal components and a larger battery inside the metal frame. There will be three flavor to choose from; 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. There’s also a front-facing camera, a larger 5MP camera with a flash on the back, a higher-resolution (960×640) display that’s slightly smaller than the current models of 3.5″, a second mic for noise cancellation, and a new back, which is flat and made of ceramic. It’s also three grams heavier than a 3GS, with a 16 percent larger battery and the same new microSIM slot used in the iPad.
Thanks to the iPhone OS 4 event in April, we actually know the most about the software the next iPhone will be running. Here are the highlights should be enough to start the saliva: multitasking, enhanced mail (threaded messaging), Game Center (it’s like Xbox Live), iBooks, App folders, and the all-important addition of Bluetooth keyboard support. If you’re an optimistic type, you can add iChat on top of all that.
Will Maxis be bringing the new 4G iPhone to Malaysia? You bet! The question is when will it arrive here and what package will Maxis be introducing? The price of the iPhone is somewhat fix by Apple. So the only room for pricing adjustment is the data plan. Maxis has been selling the iPhone 3GS like hot cakes, that even Digi wanted a slice of the market. Since Maxis has started selling the new microSIM card at all branches, which is compatible with iPad and the upcoming iPhone, the second half of this year looks pretty exciting.
For now, let’s droll over the video which highlights the design of the iPhone 4G as well as comparison to the 3GS. The more I look at it, the more it resembles my Nokia N78. What do you think?
