X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Could you imagine how great it was to be able to watch X-Men Origins: Wolverine in DVD quality a month before being shown on the cinema! I was a fan of the X-Men movies but this is the best movie I have ever seen from the franchise. Although about 10 minutes worth of scenes are missing from the leaked version, the flow of the story remains intact.

The X-Men Origins follow the life of Wolverine and his brother as they try to fit in somewhere in time before the first X-Men movie. Wolverine and his brother eventually split ways due to different views on life. You will find out where the name Wolverine comes from and how he became such a bad ass fighter!

I love action fighting movies. If that is what you like, then you are going to get your fill with X-Men, just like me. There are so much fighting, plot twists, and back stabbing in this movie. Even after watching the movie, I still crave for the actual movie to come out.

Being left on the edge of my seat, I wondered how should I fill my crave on X-Men for the time being. So I started looking for the movie tie-in game. Wolverine’s previous appearances in games have been mainly kid-friendly and gore-lite, which is somewhat odd considering that the mutant’s indestructible claws should result in plenty of decapitations with every attack.

The third-person action game will use the storyline from the upcoming big-screen film, with stars Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber lending their voices for the characters of Wolverine and Sabertooth, respectively. The action is a mix of flashback and present-day events that follow chunks of Wolverine’s unique life.

In terms of the game’s look, the visuals are coming together greatly, with Wolverine looking very much like Hugh Jackman. The environments and effects are all looking very sharp. The dedicated CG cinematic sequences as well as the interactive cinematics in which you take control of Logan are looking quite good and should please comic and movie fans.

Wolverine will sport both quick and power attacks, which can be threaded together to perform increasingly powerful combos. Landing one of these combos will result in a quick cinematic view of one of Wolverine’s various finishing moves, which is where the ultra-violence comes in.

One of the finishers I saw included Wolverine holding back a soldier’s head and stabbing him through the neck. Another had Wolverine impaling an enemy, lifting him up in the air, and repeatedly stabbing him in the chest with his other set of claws.

If the violence in the quick demo is any indication, X-Men Origins: Wolverine game looks set to be a decidedly more adult take on the popular superhero. I can’t wait to get hold of this game for my PSP as well as watching the movie again on the big screen come this May 1st!
